Delphine Deau piano solo « Prepare for Dowland »
Ceux qui étaient à Saint-Remèze un certain soir de 2021 se souviennent du remarquable concert qu’y avait donné le quartet Nefertiti, avec au piano Delphine Deau. La voici de retour dans un projet pour le moins original, en solo pour piano préparé, conçu à partir des lute songs écrits entre 1597 et 1603 par le luthiste anglais John Dowland. D’une grande limpidité d’écriture sur les plans tant mélodique qu’harmonique, les pièces du compositeur se prêtent idéalement à l’ouverture vers un espace où se déploie l’improvisation. L’approche est résolument celle du jazz, sur une matière qu’on en croyait fort éloignée, et qui trouve là de nouvelles et surprenantes résonances.
Those who attended the Saint-Remèze concert on an evening in 2021 may well remember Delphine Deau, the pianist of the Nefertiti quartet. Now she comes back with a totally different plan, original for the least : a solo concert for prepared piano, inspired by the lute songs written between 1597 and 1603 by the British lutanist John Dowland. His limpid compositions on melodic as well as harmonic levels ideally open out to a space where Delphine’s improvisations freely develop. Definitely a jazz approach on an unexpected material, awakening new and amazing echoes.
