Liane Foly quartet “I love jazz”
Elle sait tout faire : auteure, compositrice, actrice, imitatrice, animatrice, productrice de télévision, de radio… et chanteuse, comme on le sait, mais dans le répertoire du jazz, ça non, on ne le savait pas. La réalisation d’un vieux rêve, dirait-on, le jazz comme couronnement, et donc dans le format classique du genre : voix + trio. Au piano, Yacine Malek, brillant musicien algérien issu de la scène world, qui fut également proche de Michel Petrucciani ; à la contrebasse, Linley Marthe, Mauricien par ses origines et accompagnateur recherché, qui a fait partie, entre autres titres, du Joe Zawinul Syndicate ; et derrière eux le groove solide de Jean-François Ludovicus à la batterie. I love jazz, dit-elle ? Et nous donc, quand le jazz à son meilleur nous réunit !
She does it all : writer, composer, actress, imitator, animator, television and radio producer… and singer, as we know; but in the field of jazz, no, we didn’t know. The achievement of an old dream, it seems, jazz as a crowning, in the most classical format : voice + trio. At the piano, Yacine Malek, a brilliant Algerian musician a descendant of the world music scene, who in his time was close to Michel Petrucciani ; at the double bass, Linley Marthe, from Mauritius, a much sought-after sideman who used to belong, among other titles, to the Joe Zawinul Syndicate ; and behind them the drummer Jean-François Ludovicus’ solid groove. I love jazz, she says ? And so do we, when jazz at its best gathers us together.
